This course is designed for First Aid Attendants in the workplace.
Certification is valid for 3 years upon successful completion of the course and written exam.
Prerequisites: 16 years of age. Have the physical ability to perform first aid skills required to complete the learning tasks. No previous first aid training is required.
The standards of care will follow WorkSafe BC guidelines as described in the Occupational First Aid Reference and Training Manual
Instructional Objectives; each participant will:
- Identify and perform appropriate interventions for minor soft tissue injuries including the need for medical referral and be able to accurately complete the required documentation.
- Demonstrate the Priority Action Approach (to the end of the primary survey) for conscious patients with a decreased level of consciousness.
- Identify and manage critical interventions of the airway with C-spine control for conscious patients and patients with a decreased level of consciousness.
- Identify respiratory emergencies and manage critical interventions. Each participant will also describe how to identify and manage asthmatic conditions and anaphylactic shock.
- Identify circulatory emergencies and manage critical interventions
- Describe how to identify and manage stroke, diabetic conditions, seizures, and fainting
Certification:
Level 1 certification requires students to perform the skills to the required standard and also to complete a 20 question multiple-choice exam. Successful completion of the examination process means that a candidate must achieve 70% on the multiple-choice exam. A Level 1 certificate is valid for three years from the date of the examination

This course is designed for First Aid Attendants in the workplace.
Classes are limited to 18 students
Certification is valid for 3 years upon successful completion of the course and written and practical exam.
For certification there is a practical and written theory evaluation. Successful completion of the examination process means that a candidate must achieve a grade of 70% on each of the written, oral and practical portions of the examination.
Prerequisites: Students must be at least 16 years at the time of examination. Students must be in good health and physical condition.
All students will be required to complete a Statement of Fitness prior to course commencement.
If you have any medical conditions you will be required to have a Doctor complete a Medical Fitness Form (PDF) Students must be able to read, write, communicate and understand the course materials. Pre- reading is recommended prior to the course start date.
Instructor recommendation of course objectives being meet is required to take the certification exam.
